Application Process

We are delighted to receive applications from any individual who by virtue of their studies, past experience, academic qualifications or professional appointment are considered as being able to add value and depth to the capabilities and reputation of the Institute.

Fees

Full details of the fees and how to make payments are on the Membership Fees page.  If you wish to make an application from overseas please check our overseas fee structure. We have structured our fees to ensure accessibility to the Institute for those from high - upper middle - lower middle - and low-income economies.

  • Administration Fees - there is a one off fee for each level of membership payable when you submit your application. This fee is non-refundable. 

    • Student            £20 

    • Associate         £50

    • Member           £50

    • Fellow               £50

    • Senior Fellow  £50

  • Membership Subscription Fees - are payable upon confirmation you have been admitted into membership and then annually on the anniversary of your membership. If you are a UK taxpayer you are able to claim tax relief. 

    • Student            £20 

    • Associate         £40

    • Member           £50

    • Fellow               £60

    • Senior Fellow  £60

  • Reinstatement Fees - if you were a former member of the Institute and you wish to reinstate your membership please contact the Membership Secretary. You will need to make a non-refundable administration fee payment as set out above, along with payment of your subscription arrears.

Application Reviews

We accept applications throughout the year, however please note the following:

Membership applications  for Student, Associate and Member-level admissions are reviewed on a monthly basis by the Membership Admissions Board. 

 

Upgrades to Fellow are reviewed on a quarterly basis, after a 3 year period of membership, or earlier in exceptional cases. 

​

Upgrades to Senior Fellow may be considered after a minimum of 5 years after becoming a fellow and are reviewed on a quarterly basis. 

​

Applications and nominations for Honorary Members and Honorary Fellows will be discussed and agreed at Executive Council meetings in February, May, and October.
