This annual award was established to recognise significant contributions in the field of civil protection and emergency management.

Nominations for the award may be based on contributions to the field including research activity and publications, programme and policy advancement or professional development of the field.
The form of contribution is deliberately non-prescriptive in recognition of the fact that contributions to this field may vary.
Award of Excellence
Bill Blake Memorial Award
This award was established to provide an opportunity for students to showcase academic research and critical study on pertinent and pressing topics identified by the award committee.

This annual award provides a public platform and opportunity for students to engage with other academics and practitioners and influence others research and thinking, and practice.

Along with a cash prize, the winning essay is published in the Institute's Journal.
